The Future

As I have been plugging away with full time duties, at  home I just like to regress and flesh out the extension of a certain world. Below is a breakdown of how I retrieve references and apply them to creating cinematic moments.

Every Frame a Painting, Dark Paradise

As the title implies, I had to paint my way through something that felt so nebulous. It was my second full concerted jab at fleshing out a narrative. The images were inspired from the lyrical compositions of Lana Del Rey's Dark Paradise. Towards the end of production I felt like I got the hang of the production pipeline, nailing every last bit of the shot list I put up. Nonetheless, there still remains a lot to learn.

Layout Design Research & Development Process, Project Jack Frost

The trick is to reflect the object. Once that is done, you have the option of fleshing out more of the details. Before drawing anything in 3D, I found that drawing things orthographically had dispersed the fog of intimidation. Shapes are all that matter when standing afar from the detail and complexity.

ATLOS Animated Preliminaries

Every frame a drawing, roughs, weights, colors and shades. I took on this challenge with the intention of fine tuning my drawing senses. I was keenly aware of the lighting situations of certain areas and shots and how they would affect the rendering of the character. The 3D aspect was one of the major challenges I had to tackle due to the contiuous perspective change. There are so few "hand-drawn" frames that could be contained within a few miliseconds compared to the smoothness of 3D. All in all, this made for a wondrous drawing exercise.
